Earlier, Sushma Verma of Shimla has joined the team. Now Renuka Singh Thakur will also be joining India Women's team. It is the first timem that she has been picked in the squad for for the upcoming T20 series to be played against Australia. Belonging to a small village known as Parsa, Renuka hail from Shimla district. She lost her father in 1999 when she was only three years old. Her mother raised her through many hardships. Renuka told reporters that her father was a cricket lover and that he was a big fan of Vinod Kambli. In an emotional statement, she expressed that her father must be watching her from above.
Initially, Renuka started playing the game at a local level and then she was selected for Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s Dharamshala Academy. Being a fast bowler she has honed her craft at the HPCA under the tutelage of coach Pawan Sen. As reported by News18, "in 2019, Renuka picked up 23 wickets in the BCCI Women’s One Day tournament after which she was selected for the Indian Women’s Team A."
