Hathras Rape Case to Nirbhaya Rape Case: Animosity in our country hasn’t stopped, here’s the report of the last decade

After the Nirbhaya Gang Rape, the Hathras Rape case has left everyone shocked, check out the latest updates of the case here and also how the figures of the crime have increased in the last decade…

With the spike in the rape cases in our country, the existing pandemic seems to look like a smaller problem. And while we can cure the pandemic, there is no solution as to by when we can put an end to atrocities like rape in our country. Especially with the crime increasing rapidly over the last decade, there have been some horrific incidences which have left us aghast. Be it the Nirbhaya Gang Rape or the very recent Hathras Rape Case, the government’s silence over the atrocities against small, young, middle-aged, and old women only makes us wonder when the women of our country will be safe from these evils.

After the Nirbhaya Gang Rape, which was followed by some stern action, citizens of the country were hopeful that girls would be safer from now on and now such women might have to deal with the horrific act like that of Nitbhaya. However, Manisha Valmiki’s gang rape by 4 Thakur Men in Hathras has once again left all hopes shattered. The brutality with which the gang-rape has happened has left many in the nation angry.

Take a look at what all has happened in this case so far, when and where such horrific incidents have taken place, and which two capitals have been its epicenter…

- After the Nirbhaya rape case, people’s reaction made it seem like no one in our country will tolerate any such atrocity against the women, even the system made some stricter laws, however, in the last 7-8 years, there has been no change on this front.

- Between 2013 to 2019, around 2 lakh 40 thousand rape cases have been reported, going by the statistics, 4 rapes happen every hour and 95 rapes happen in a day.

- What is shocking is that the mindset and attitude towards the women haven’t changed even after the horrific Nirbhaya rape case. In fact, rapes in India are no less than a pandemic, and in the last decade rape cases in our country have increased by 31 percent.

- In 2019, 32 thousand rape cases have happened, and half from these have been from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh.

- In the most rape prone cities, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are on the 1st and 2nd spot and as per statistics, almost 10 Dalit women are raped daily.

- 3500 Dalit women have been raped in 2019, from these one-third of the cases are from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Here are all the updates about the Hathras Rape Case

-On September 14, 2020, the victim was gang-raped by 4 Thakur men, her tongue was cut off and the spinal cord was also broken, however, the police have been denying all these allegations.

- After the victim’s brother managed to get a complaint registered on 19th September, a man named Sandip was arrested basis that.

- On 22nd September, the victim’s statement was recorded, where she named 4 men – Luv, Khush, Ravi, and Ramkumar behind the gang rape.

- After connecting the dots with the FIR all the accused were arrested on 23rd, 25th, and 26th September.

- On 28th September, after the victim’s condition deteriorated she was shifted to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi.

- Sadly, on 29th September the victim breathed her last, and later on, her body was taken for post-mortem in the hospital.

- On 30th September, despite her family’s disagreement, her last rites were done.

Talking about the last rites of the victim, police ADG stated that the body was rotting, hence with the family’s permission, the last rites were conducted. But on this, yet another horrific incident, Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and others also expressed displeasure on social media. Seeing the intensity of the matter, CM Yogi Adityanath ordered the case to be dealt with on a fast track basis. After meeting the victim’s family, he also announced giving them 25 lakh rupees compensation, a house, and provide jobs to her brother. Before Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi visited Hathras, section 144 was imposed.

Let us see how the matter further takes a turn and what punishment is given to the culprits. Stay tuned!
