Type of Container 

First and foremost, before pumping the breast milk do not avoid to clean your hands with soap and water. Store the milk in a clean, capped food-grade glass container or hard plastic container which is not made up with the chemical bisphenol A (BPA).

Special plastic bags designed for milk collection and storage are also available in the market which can be used to store the milk. Avoid using the bottles and bags which are disposable and made up for household utilization. 

Refrigerate fresh breast-milk 

You can store the freshly pumped breast-milk in a refrigerator at a temperature of 40°F or lower for up to 4 days. 

Room Temperature 

If you are keeping the breast-milk at room temperature then it lasts up to 6 hours. If the temperature is warm then it may last up to 4 hours. Don't make your child consume it after this duration. 

Deep Freezing 

Opting for deep freezing the fresh breast-milk may make it last for up to 6-12 months, as per Mayo clinic. 

Prepare the stored breast-milk 

To prepare the stored breast-milk to feed the child, take it out from the fridge and set it aside. Avoid using microwave to warm it up, instead thaw it in a bowl of warm water.
