India is a land with diverse cultures and due to this we even get to see a lot of festivals being celebrated by different religions. However, due to the Corona Virus pandemic this year, festivals and its celebrations were majorly affected this year. And while this threat for Covid-19 led to celebrations being low key, there was no way that people could let the pandemic dampen their festive spirits. Luckily, things have gotten better for this festival and a lot of facilities have even opened up.
Diwali- the festival of lights is being celebrated in India today, and while the excitement is quite high, the festivities have surely taken a hit. On this one of its kind Diwali 2020, TV celebs Share their experience and plans of celebrating the festival in these Covid times.
Arjun Bijlani
TV’s most popular actor Arjun Bijlani who we recently saw in Tere Ishq Mein Marjawan says that while they cannot go out or invite many people at home, he and his family will make the most of the festival. “This year we will have a cosy family Diwali celebration. We have a pet dog so we don’t get crackers at home. We will do a Laxmi puja at home and then we will light diyas and also make a colourful rangoli. Everyone should have a low-key Diwali with family only this year. We need to realise that just because everything is open now does not mean that we are out of Covid-19. Because people are moving out so much, the chance of getting infected with Covid-19 is really high. We need to make sure that we keep our families safe.”
Avinash Mukherjee
The Balika Vadhu and Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki actor Avinash Mukherjee says, “I have been constantly shooting so I will get an off on Diwali and will spend my time with my parents. We will do puja and follow other rituals. My mom is going to make special food for all of us and I won’t think of my diet on this day. This year, as it is things have been low key due to Covid -19, but I have made up my mind of not letting my spirits go low due to this disease. I will make sure to enjoy my Diwali.”
Sucheeta Trivedi
Actress Sucheeta Trivedi who is known for her role as Meenakshi Thakkar in Baa Bahoo Aur Baby is currently seen in the show India Wali Maa. Sharing her Diwali plans the actress says, “I have been constantly shooting so I will take a holiday on Diwali and will be celebrating the festival with my husband. My show India Wali Maa is doing well. I am very happy about it. I will follow all the rituals of the festival and thank the gods for gracing me with such luck this year. There is a major scare of Covid-19 this year and I am making sure to not go out too much or visit the markets.”
Vijayendra Kumeria
The Naagin and Udaan actor also drove to Ahmedabad to bring his parents home for Diwali. About celebrating the festival of lights this year, the actor said, “I always celebrate Diwali with my parents. Before the pandemic hit us, my parents had gone to Ahmedabad and we avoided air travel for them due to their age. So I thought I would go by road and pick them up. For the past 15 years, I have been celebrating Diwali in Mumbai and it was lovely traveling by road. We didn’t stop much in between and I really enjoyed the drive in my new car."
Urvashi Upadhyay Sharle
Actress Urvashi Upadhyay of Dil Se Dil Tak said, “I will be driving to Madhya Pradesh with my husband. I am celebrating Diwali with my relatives. It will be a little cold there and so I will enjoy the hot delicacies and food which is the specialty of MP. I will also have a lot of poha with namkeens. We are making sure to follow all norms and take all possible precautions to avoid Covid-19. I feel everyone should make sure to follow these so that they can be happy and healthy.”
Amit Sarin
Amit Sarin of Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Pavitra Rishta fame moved to the US in 2018. And while he is there he will celebrate the festival in all its ethnicity, sharing his plans he says,” I will have puja and celebration at home with some friends who would be visiting me and vice versa. As social distancing is the order of the day in Los Angeles, where I currently live, I will not be going out much or meeting too many people. I will miss Mumbai ki Diwali and meeting my friends in Mumbai.”
