Central Government Initiates Discounted Tomato Sale Amid Rising Prices and Consumer Struggles
To provide relief to consumers who are struggling with high tomato prices, the central government is selling tomatoes at a discounted rate in Delhi-NCR, Patna, Lucknow, and Kanpur. The tomatoes are being sold at Rs 90 per kilogram. The sale is being organized by the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) on behalf of the central government. The objective is to alleviate the burden on consumers and help manage tomato prices.
Expansion of Discounted Tomato Sale: Lucknow, Kanpur, and Kendra Bhandar Outlets Join the Initiative
Union Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh mentioned that discounted tomatoes would also be available in Lucknow and Kanpur. Fifteen mobile vans are deployed in each city. In Delhi-NCR, the quantity and reach of discounted tomatoes will be increased from the following day. NCCF Managing Director Anice Joseph Chandra stated, "We are selling tomatoes of 'A' grade export quality, and the quantity will exceed 20,000 kilograms by tomorrow."
NCCF and NAFED Join Forces: Central Government's Plan to Manage Tomato Prices with Discounted Sale
Starting from Sunday, the NCCF will also sell tomatoes through more than 100 Kendra Bhandar outlets in the national capital. The discounted sale will continue until prices stabilize. Additionally, three mobile vehicles were sent to Noida Sector-78 and Pari Chowk near Greater Noida.It is both surprising and remarkable to witness the government offering discounted rates for vegetables.
