CWG 2022: Indian Flag Hoisted in Birmingham, Opening Ceremony on July 28

The Indian flag was hoisted in the presence of a few competitors, including the hockey teams (men and women) of India. The grand event of opening ceremony of the Games will start at 11:30 pm IST on Thursday (July 28) at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham

On Wednesday, the Indian flag was raised at the Commonwealth Games Village in Birmingham, ahead of the opening ceremony. The flag was hoisted in the presence of a few competitors, including the hockey teams (men and women) of India. 

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Treasurer Anandeshwar Panday, acting President Anil Khanna, Chef de Mission Rajesh Bhandari, Deputy Chef de Mission Anil Dhupar, and other significant authorities were likewise present during a function loaded up with music and dance.

India's Flag bearer for the opening ceremony of CWG 2022 

On Wednesday, two-fold Olympic medallist expert shuttler PV Sindhu and Indian men's hockey group chief Manpreet Singh were named as India's flagbearers for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games which will be held on Thursday. 

In a statement, the IOA said, "The decision to name Mr. Singh as the second Flagbearer for the said occasion was arrived at after the IOA was intimated by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee that two Flagbearers one male and one female must be named by each nation for the Opening Ceremony." 

Sindhu's name was declared before from a waitlist of three competitors, later the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) named Manpreet Singh as the second flagbearer after they got to know that presence of both male and female flagbearers will be required.

The opening ceremony 

The great opening function of the Games will start at 11:30 pm IST on Thursday (July 28) at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The service will observe first-rate exhibitions from any semblance of the new wave band - Duran. Weighty metal band Black Sabbath's guitarist Tony Iommi will likewise be performing live.
