The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday recovered assets worth 15 crore while raiding properties in Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and Kolkata that belonged to a retired railway official, Pramod Kumar Jena and his family.
The CBI had lodged a case on 3rd of January against Jena for alleged possession of disproportionate assets (DA). Pramod Kumar Jena is a retired Indian Railway Traffic Service (IIRTS) officer of the 1987 batch, he retired on November 30th, 2022.
The assets that were recovered is being suspected to have been gained through corruption, the assets included cash around 1.6 crore, 17Kg of gold that is worth Rupees 9.5 crores, postal savings and bank fixed deposits of Rs3.3 crore and mutual fund investments of around Rs 48 lakh. The value of the recovered assets is higher than what was mentioned in the FIR and the probe agency has checked all of Jena’s assets from April 1st, 2005 to March 31st, 2020.
The CBI had found that Jena and his family members that includes his wife and 2 daughters owned movable and immovable assets worth Rs 4.33 crore. On looking into Jena’s genuine income as well his family members the CBI had calculated his disproportionate assets(DA) to be about Rs 1.92 crore but what was recovered is worth more than what was expected, it is being estimated that the recovery is 59% more than his legitimate sources of income. Now he is being questioned regarding how he gathered properties worth so much. He retired in 2022 as principal chief operations manager from East Coast Railway in Bhubaneswar.
