Buddhist Tourism in India is a pilgrimage because it is widely known as the birthplace of Buddhism.  The main destination being Bodh Gaya, where Lord  Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment The country is bounteously scattered with beautiful Buddhist temples that you must visit at-least once.

Location : Bodh Gaya, Bihar

Mahabodhi temple is one of the most prime and sacred pilgrim sites of Buddhism. The main temple is in the shape of a 180 feet pyramid like structure which has various engravings on it that reflects custom, tradition and teachings of Buddhism. The temple is also homes a magnificent statue of Buddha that is made out from yellow sandstone.


2. Mahaparinirvana Temple

Location : Kushinagar

Mahaparinirvana Temple is one of the holiest shrines in Buddhism. Apart from an important pilgrim site, the place is one of the most visited tourist places not just by Indian tourists but also by international travelers because of its spiritual and mesmerizing aura and mind-smacking architecture. 


Location : Leh

This temple is located at one of the most beautiful locations in the middle of the beautiful mountain ranges and picturesque landscapes of Leh. Red Maitreya temple is known for housing a statue of Lord Buddha, that is about 49 feet tall. Other than its creativity and spiritual attribute, the peaceful location just adds to the overall charm of the temple.


4. Golden Pagoda

Location : Arunachal Pradesh

Situated in the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, the Golden Pagoda Temple is in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh. Scattered over a huge 20 hectares of area. The Golden Pagoda is known to house 12 domes. Known as Kong Mu Kham, the temple is known for being the site for Kathina festival that is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in November.

One of the most oldest stone structures in India representing the beauty of Buddhist art and culture is Sanchi Stupa. It is one of those places which you would not want to miss even if you are not much of a spiritual person. Due to its popularity, this temple has also found a place in the list of world heritage sites by UNESCO.
