Bhai Dooj celebrates the bond shared among siblings. The festival is observed on the second day of the new moon or Shukla Paksha’s Amavasya in the Kartik month which is the second day after Diwali. 

Date of the festival 

In 2021, Bhai Dooj is being celebrated on November 6.

Auspicious Time 

Dwitiya Tithi for Bhai Dooj 2021 will begin on November 5 at 11:14 pm and it will finish at 07:44 pm on November 6. 

Puja Vidhi 

As a ritual, sisters put a tilak of vermillion/kumkum on her brothers’ forehead after doing his aarti. In return, the brothers offer their sisters with gifts. In the next step, the sister feeds her brother with sweets and savouries. 

Significance of Bhai Dooj 

As per the Hindu mythology, the festival is associated with the Vedic era. In the Vedic period, deities used to share a great bond with their siblings. In the ancient scriptures of Hinduism,  the festival has been recognised as a celebration of the bond among siblings.
