Ashes 2021: Pat Cummins to complete Covid isolation at home in Sydney

Australian captain Pat Cummins will complete his Covid-19 isolation at home in Sydney.

On Friday, Australian captain Pat Cummins received some welcome news to leave Covid isolation in Adelaide and complete it at home in Sydney. On Thursday, the world’s number one Test bowler was ruled out of the second Ashes Test against England just hours before it started for being in close contact with a positive Covid-19 case, reported Cricket Australia.

While sharing the information on Twitter, Cummins wrote, "Gutted to miss this Test but really excited to see Neser finally get his chance in the baggy green. He has done the hard yards and is a seriously skillful player. Super frustrating but COVID has thrown us all some curve balls over the last couple of years. Will be cheering along!"

“Under the plan approved by SA Health, he will self-drive from isolation and then, with the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) and hygiene controls, take a single charter flight. He will continue to observe all isolation requirements in New South Wales," Cricket Australia said.

On Wednesday evening, Cummins was at an Adelaide restaurant when a person at the neighbouring table was identified as positive for coronavirus.

He isolated himself as soon as he became aware of the situation and has since returned a negative Covid test. In his absence, Steve Smith is captaining the side for the first time since a ball-tampering scandal in 2018.
