Amazon demands detention of founders of Future Group, hearing in Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court will hear on Thursday the petition of US online retailer Amazon seeking to detain the founders of Future Group, the list also includes the names of Future Group CEO Kishore Biyani, as well as His assets have been confiscated as it seeks to block Future Group's retail assets from being sold to Reliance Industries.

In its plea, Amazon sought to implement the Singapore arbitrator's decision in October, against the Rs 24,713-crore deal between him and Reliance in the future. The argument given by Amazon directed the Biyani family to "disclose their assets, know-how, including movable and immovable property" and attach the same.

The petition also calls for the "house arrest" of three other officials, including Biyani, his daughter Ashni and seven other members of the founding family, as well as a company secretary of the group. Amazon wants Reliance to close its deal to sell retail assets, asking the court to direct it to "house arrest of directors of Future Group entities".

In the petition, Amazon has stated that interim injunctions granted by emergency arbitration are enforceable under the Indian laws under the Arbitration and Reconciliation Act because the order is considered a court order and enforced under the Civil Code process.

Amazon has prayed that the court issue an injunction against the future group, which in light of the guidelines passed by the EA, on any application made by any regulatory body or agency in India initiated or pursued by them Is also dependent on approval.
