A rice mill in Haryana’s Karnal district collapses leading to 4 deaths and it is being feared that several rice mill workers are trapped under the debris.
The incident took place at the Shiv Shakti rice mill in Taraori town of the district around 3 am. Around 200 laborers were sleeping when the roof of the building’s top floor collapsed which resulted in death of 4 migrant workers.
According to Karnal Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan, all the deceased have been identified as migrant workers and their bodies have been taken out. The ones who got injured have been taken to nearby hospital for medical treatment.
After the mishap fire tenders and ambulances rushed to the scene to start rescue operations. More than 100 people have been evacuated so far from the backside.
District Collector Karnal Anish Yadav stated “a total of 24 people have been affected out of which 20 are injured and 4 are dead. Around 150 workers were inside the building when the incident took place. The injured have been admitted to a hospital. Prima facie we found that the building had some defects. A committee will be formed to investigate the incident. Legal action will be taken against the rice mill owners.”
