Two goods trains had a head-on-collision in the southern cabin of Sultanpur station.

Two goods trains had a head-on-collision in the southern cabin of Sultanpur station. This resulted in a disruption of train movements on the Lucknow-Varanasi and Ayodhya-Prayagraj routes.

The deadly accident took place on Thursday around 5.45 am as both of the goods trains were running on the same track. The collision resulted in a severe damage as six coaches were derailed. The reports doesn’t mention about any causalities or loss of life. However cases of injury have been recorded.

Rekha Sharma who is working as senior divisional commercial manager in Northern Railways (NR), Lucknow stated, “The four loco-pilots of the goods trains sustained injuries due to the accident. However, no casualties were reported. Clearance work on the site is underway’’.

Suresh Kumar Sapra who is appointed as divisional railway manager of Northern Railways, Lucknow, went to meet the injured loco pilots -- including two loco pilots and two assistant loco pilots -- at the district hospital in Sultanpur where they have been admitted for treatment. He assured to help them as much as possible.

 Mr. Sapra mentioned that those injured are recovering steadily and he also quoted about a panel that has been set up to investigate into the matter. According to the press note released by the NR, the accident caused damage to several railway tracks. 

Due to the accident, six trains on the route were cancelled. Also twelve others were diverted and other two were rescheduled. The press note also stated “A help desk has been arranged at Lucknow and Varanasi Junctions. Special refund counters have also been arranged at all major stations.”
